New York State
Homeowner Assistance Fund
(NYS HAF)
NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
NEED HELP APPLYING?
Email NHS Brooklyn here to be contacted by a counselor or
call 718-469-4679 Monday - Friday 9am-5pm.
HAF funds can be used to satisfy:
Mortgage arrears or to reduce principal
Property tax and water arrears
HOA/Maintenance arrears
Chattel loans or monthly lot rents
Awards will be capped at $50,000. If an applicant applies for multiple interventions (i.e. property tax arrears and mortgage arrears), the combined award will be subject to the $50,000 cap.
This assistance is for COVID-impacted homeowners. Homeowners may apply who were in arrears prior to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, they must have been negatively affected by the pandemic.
Forward Payments Program: Applicants who are unemployed may apply for up to six (6) months of forward payments. (May be combined with the other interventions)
If you received assistance through ERAP, you may apply for NYS HAF, so long as you are not being paid twice for the same arrears.
Speak with an NHS Brooklyn counselor. Apply even if you have a reverse mortgage or have exhausted your unemployment benefits or are unemployed. If you are not eligible for this program, you may be eligible for others.
